Youth Acting (Ages 12-18Yr.)
with Trevor Roberts
Class Description
In this class, we’ll work on the basics of film acting
and auditioning; the realities of set life/working in the
industry; how to work from a place of truth; and most
importantly, how to make strong, specific and
memorable choices so that your work stands out.
We’ll have evaluated “mock auditions”, exercises in
each class that fold into the focus of that day’s work,
as well as fundamental acting warm-ups (speech
and physicality) and the skills that provide a solid
foundation for young actors, to work professionally in
Vancouver’s exciting film industry.
My mentor, Carole Tarlington, instilled in me, in my
25+ years working with her… “We don’t train ‘film
actors’, we train actors.”

Mock Audition #1
In this week's class, actors will be assessed based on their acting skills such as :
Listening, Relationship, Character's mindset, Truthfulness/Believability, Moment Before/Moment After.
Week 4
Moment before & Moment After
We will discover the powerful effect of a STRONG moment before, to emotionally root you into the scene, BEFORE the lines even begin and how to stay in the scene, and continue to live as the character, until you hear “cut”.
Week 5
Listening
In real life, we never have the other person’s lines, BUT we do in a script.
So, how do we in the moment, say the line as if it's the “first time”? The key is 'listening' to the other actors delivering their lines and let it move you.
In this class, Students will learn to work with scenes only receiving THEIR lines.
Week 6
Accessing Emotion
As humans, we feel things and so does our characters. They are happy, sad, angry, emotional, confused etc. just like us in real life. So, how do we feel what our character is feeling and commit to the moment in the scene?
In this week, we will learn to understand character's feelings by using emotionally challenging scene work which will help students to learn the techniques for 'Accessing Emotions'.
Week 7
Mock Audition #2
In this class, we will assess each student's progress. Now that the students have some training
behind them, a 2nd mock audition will be held to unravel their growth.
Week 8
Final Scene Presentation
Students will revisit scenes they’ve previously worked on in class, and in front of a small audience of invites (Parents/Agents/Prospective Agents), they will give their scenes final take.
